Management of angular limb deformities and developmental orthopaedic disease in foals

Evening seminar by Nicholas Wingfield Digby BVSc MRCVS

Seminar Overview

Growth problems in foals can be grouped into abnormalities present at birth (congenital) and acquired abnormalities. Often interrelated, these conditions require assessment and management through careful control of exercise, nutrition and farriery. More severe cases will require veterinary involvement that may include support bandaging, medication and surgical intervention.

The techniques used to aid correction of angular limb deformities will be described including the use of hoof extensions, shockwave therapy and check ligament desmotomy. Acquired musculoskeletal abnormalities broadly described as developmental orthopaedic disease (DOD) will respond more readily following early detection and treatment. Management of DOD will be reviewed.

Venue: Upper Lecture Theatre, Easter Bush Veterinary Centre
